Matt Rota

Illustrator Matt Rota guides us through his studio and sketchbook in this episode of Studio Breaks! While showing us his ink and gouache drawings and sketches, Rota discusses how disparate elements — such as Vertigo comic books, classic cinema, and his extensive music collection — play a role in the formation of his body of work.

This episode was created in conjunction with an Equity Rebound Series essay by Rota titled "Matt Rota: Neo Colonialism and the Utopian Ideal." In this essay, Rota discusses his latest series of drawings titled “The Estates,” his travels to India, and how his current art relates to the works featured in his past exhibition at Equity Gallery, "Hard-Line."

Rota's "The Estates" series will be featured on NYAE's WING project space and Artsy profile from July 28th — August 25th.
