AN EAST WING ONLINE PROJECT SPACE EXHIBITION

“The paintings in this show are all "pandemic" paintings. Painted in 2020 and 2021.

My sweet spot in landscape painting combines the opposing forces of representation and abstraction.

Topography is an inspiration. Through the painting process, loosely based on one or more figurative views, I create an image of interlocking, overlapping and tilting shapes.

Layering oils and drawing in charcoal, graphite and stabilo, then wiping and scraping, I work the surface allowing traces to remain. Many turns at painting, drawing and amending are involved.

Landscape is an idea on which to hang my abstract conception of painting. An image is achieved by staying open to change and chance.” — Ginny Howsman Friedman
