Siyan Wong, Mother Warriors

March 12 – April 11, 2026

Siyan Wong’s paintings focus on immigrant Chinese women working in garment factories, restaurants, and domestic labor, bringing visibility to lives often overlooked. Drawing on her experience as a workers’ rights lawyer, her self-taught practice combines direct observation with a flattened, patterned style that emphasizes both the physical demands of labor and the interior lives of her subjects. Mother Warriors presents recent paintings alongside works by students and artists from her community, extending this focus through a shared reflection on the immigrant experience.

Familiar Stranger

March 12 – April 11, 2026

Familiar Stranger brings together works by Luisa Henao, Ying Hung, Sharon Cheuk Wun Lee, Elim Mak, and Mary Ting, extending Siyan Wong’s focus on immigrant life and labor. Taking its title from Wong’s painting of an elderly woman collecting cans on the Lower East Side, the exhibition considers questions of visibility, precarity, and survival shaped by migration. Across varied practices, the artists attend to the lived conditions of assimilation and the forms of resilience embedded in everyday experience.

Mark LaRiviere, Crisis

March 12 – April 11, 2026

A new body of sculptural ensembles inaugurates Equity Gallery’s spring courtyard season and marks a shift in the artist’s long engagement with the figure. Impasto surfaces, heightened gestures, and deeply emotive expressions move the work beyond naturalism toward a more archetypal vision of the human condition. Developed in the wake of the pandemic and the upheaval it brought, the sculptures reflect moments of fear, uncertainty, and turning points that precede decisive action. The figures inhabit a collective drama of vulnerability, survival, and mortality.
