A WEST WING ONLINE PROJECT SPACE EXHIBITION

Gosha Karpowicz’s paintings invite the viewer into a mysterious and enticing world of color.

The subtle veils of layered paint behave like the mystery of time cloaking memories, forming and inventing new encounters. Colors continuously transform from within, confessing their sensitivity to light and darkness and asserting themselves in brilliance, all while still displaying gentleness and fragility.

Karpowicz’s paintings arise out of conjuring interactions of color fields, ultimately illuminating the relationships between them. The alluring reference to the lines of horizons becomes an evocative image of both the known and the unknown, with no beginning and no end. The paintings’ surfaces contemplate space and time through colors dividing or connecting, allowing their implied vastness to dictate form. The ephemeral mood of her paintings speaks to the dreamy yet solemn quality of human yearning for meaning.

Karpowicz’s inspiration comes from Eastern and Western philosophy, from master painters such as J. M. W. Turner, and from observing the fleeting quality of the ever changing world of nature. In her work, Karpowicz tends to her need to find poetic expression to articulate human experience.

In a world where stillness is rare, Karpowicz’s paintings rely on the moments of quietude. They offer the viewer a space to pause and reflect on their own experience.
