Equity Gallery Exhibition Proposals

Exhibition Submission Guidelines

eligibility  

  • NYAE members in good standing at the Cobalt level and above may submit exhibition proposals for adjudication once per annum during one of that year’s seasonal review periods. 

  • Cobalt members and up may propose virtual thematic group shows (3 or more artists) or smaller solo project exhibitions for nyartistsequity.org.

  • Rose members and up may additionally propose thematic group shows (3 or more artists) in the main galleries or smaller solo installations in the gallery’s project space or. 

  • Emerald members may additionally propose larger solo exhibitions, to be adjudicated by NYAE’s board of directors.

  • Thematic group shows of 3 or more artists for the website (Cobalt members and up)

  • Thematic group shows of 3 or more artists for the physical gallery space (Rose members and up)

  • Small solo project installations for the website (Cobalt members and up)

  • Small solo project installations for the gallery’s project space (Rose members and up)

  • Solo exhibitions for the physical gallery space or the website (Emerald members only)

  • Works suitable for outdoor display in the gallery’s courtyard space (Rose members and up)

  • Please note that NYAE reserves the right to offer an alternative type of exhibit if the applicant’s first choice is unavailable or we deem that another type would be more appropriate. For example, an exhibit proposed for the gallery may be work better in the project space or on the website.

Dates

Please note that Equity Gallery’s exhibition schedule is determined 12-18 months in advance.

Proposals are reviewed on or about the below noted seasonal dates and are reviewed as a comparative cohort corresponding to that date’s preceding time window—also as noted.  Applicants will be notified upon receipt of their proposal which review date and cohort their proposal will be assigned to.  From that date, members can expect a decision within 6 weeks.  All proposals are reviewed, and every effort will be made to accommodate proposals at the earliest review date possible.

Fees & support

  • The application fee is $35 for all members except Lifetime members, who can submit for free.

  • In some cases a small honorarium may be made available to support artists.

REquirements

All proposals must include the below listed items. Incomplete proposals will be returned and may be resubmitted (one time courtesy) for a subsequent review period.  

  1. Name, short bio (1-3 paragraphs), and contact information, including email, phone and postal address, of lead applicant. 

  2. Concise exhibition statement (3 – 5 paragraphs) including title, aims and objectives, participating artists names (if applicable), estimated number of works, and preferred exhibition dates. 

  3. 5 – 7 images of works, per participating artist, that is representative of work(s) to be exhibited.  Include short bios (1 -3 paragraphs) for each participating artist. 

  4. For exhibit proposals utilizing the entire gallery space, schematic map using gallery floor plan indicating placement of works (floor plan provided below). Not required for online, sculpture courtyard, and project space proposals.
